A business website exists to spread the word about what you can do for your potential clients. It should be interesting, attractive, inspirational and – above all – exude professionalism to the core.
Pay no attention to the cartoon.
A business website gives your potential clients all the information they need to make the decision to contact you. It can show your wares to the world, demonstrate the depth of your skill and experience, and assure them that your site, and your business, is the answer to all their relevant problems.
The cartoon has no purpose. Ignore it.
A business website needs to be eye-catching, yet not garish; unique, not bizarre; informational, not dull; profitable, not pointless.
Cartoons are optional.
WHAT CAN A WEBSITE DO FOR ME?
Make money. As with any investment, the aim of a business website is to increase profitability.
This comes through increasing your visibility and your reputation, which increases interest in your business, which increases your cash flow.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
In two halves.
The first is to get people who are potentially interested in what you can offer to go to your website. This can be ‘old’ media (leaflets, posters, adverts, graffiti), ‘new’ media (internet links, bringing up your website from a Google search, email) or both.
The second is to get people who go to your website to pick up the phone, write an email, and beat a path to your door. This happens when the design and feel of the website gives a good impression of your business, and the information on the website instils confidence and interest in your business.
